CANADA: ELECTION WATCH: Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's support may
decline after he spent last week apologizing for images of him wearing racist
blackface costumes as late as 2001.
-Trudeau's chance of re-election with majority government Oct. 21 is 33%, down
from 34% Friday, according to CBC poll tracker. Liberals and Conservatives led
by Andrew Scheer are about tied with about 35% popular support.
-Liberals Monday promised expanded publicly funded prescription drug plans; over
weekend said they would lift the basic annual personal tax exemption by C$2,000
to C$15,000. Conservatives over weekend pledged expanded tax credits for
seniors. Continues trend of a campaign with major parties offering small-scale
tax relief for families.
-A party must win majority of 338 seats in House of Commons to pass budgets and
legislation without opposition support.
