ELECTRICITY: Axpo Continues Works on Gigerwald Dam

ELECTRICITY

Switzerland’s Axpo and KSL have resumed the partial refurbishment of the Gigerwald dam facility, with reservoir levels to be drained until late September, the firm said.

  • Main works will begin once the reservoir is drained.
  • Once the Gigerwald reservoir has been drained and the Mapragg power plant has shut down, work on the dam facility is likely to continue until late April 2025, with recommissioning of the plant scheduled for early summer 2025.
  • Renovation works had been halted in September 2022, after Switzerland – and other parts in Europe – faced a limited power supply situation in winter 2022/23.
