EMISSIONS: EU ETS 2 Price to Rise to €105/ton CO2e before 2030

EMISSIONS

The EU ETS 2 price under the upcoming scheme for building and road transport sectors is likely to start off at around €55/ton CO2e at the expected launch in 2027, before rising to €105/ton CO2e before 2030 according to a ClearBlue Markets report, cited by Montel.

  • Initial prices are lower due to an expected oversupply, before prices will start rising amid supply tightening, the report stated.
  • The report forecasts emissions under EU ETS 2 to decline to 1.04bn tons by 2030, down by 20% from 2023 levels due to an expected drop in road transport emissions by 17% and a 24% decline in the buildings sector.
  • In comparison, the European Commission forecasts emissions under EU ETS 2 to decline to 860mn tons by 2030.
