EMISSIONS: Italy’s Meloni Criticizes Ending Combustion Engine Sales by 2035
EMISSIONS
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni criticised the EU’s targets to end the sale of combustion engine cars by 20235 because it would hurt the sector according to Reuters.
- "The ban on endothermic engine (cars) from 2035 is one of the most obvious examples of a self-destructive approach," Meloni said.
- "Accompanying the industrial sector in the challenge of ecological transition cannot mean dismantling entire sectors," she added.
- Last year, the EU approved a law to ban new diesel and petrol car sales from 2035. The target is scheduled to be reviews in 2026.
- In addition, the EU’s car lobby has recently urged the EU to implement emergency regulations to postpone its 2025 emissions targets for automakers by two years.
