EMISSIONS: UK Shipping Group Calls for £700mn Investment For Net Zero Target

The UK Chamber of Shipping has issued a plan for the UK shipping industry to reach net zero by 2050, proposing investments of £700mn for the upcoming UK budget, it said. 

  • The new roadmap will be an update to the UK’s Clean Maritime Plan that was issued in 2019.
  • This is aligned with the IMO under which nations have agreed an international decarbonisation pathway for shipping that reaches net zero around 2050 with checkpoints in 2030 and 2040.
  • The 2024 UK autumn Budget is scheduled for 30 October.
