Offshore oil and gas platforms in the Gulf of Mexico have evacuated workers and halted some production amid expectations that a major hurricane will hit the region later this week, Argus said.

  • Tropical storm Helene is headed for the Gulf of Mexico and should become a hurricane Sep. 25 – winds of at least 111 mph.
  • BP shut production at its Na Kika and Thunder Horse platforms and was cutting output at Argos and Atlantis. It has evacuated non-essential workers from Argos, Atlantis, Mad Dog, Na Kika and Thunder Horse, Argus said.
  • Chevron is evacuating workers and shutting Blind Faith and Petronius.
  • Shell has shut output from its Stones facility and cut output from Appomattox. It also evacuated non-essential workers from assets in the Mars Corridor.
