Engie has reaffirmed its opposition to the Belgian government’s plan to extend the lifespan of the Doel 4 and Tihange 3 nuclear reactors by an additional ten years according to the Brussels Times. 

  • Engie’s CEO Vincent Verbeke last week said it is unthinkable to extend the lifespan of the reactors.
  • The Belgian government on Friday decided to revoke the existing nuclear phase out law with the intention to extend the lifespan of the Doel 4 and Tihange 3 reactors lifespan by an additional ten years – in addition to the already granted extension.
  • The reactors are currently scheduled to shut down in 2035.
