ENI Agrees to Boost Egypt Upstream Ops: Platts

The Egyptian petroleum ministry said July 24 that ENI agreed to intensify its upstream work in Egypt and increase operational rigs, Platts said.

  • Eni operates Egypt’s giant Zohr gas field and, it in a joint venture operating the 5m mtpa Damietta LNG export terminal.
  • Egypt’s gas output has been on a recent downtrend, with output down to 4.3 bcm in May. This compares to 5.1 bcm in May 2023 well below the monthly peak of 6.1 Bcm in March 2021, Platts said.
  • Regarding Egyptian operations, ENI had previously told Platts that “several production optimization activities were foreseen and being implemented in the field, including drilling activities, upgrade of water handling facilities and plant pressure optimization trough compression.”
