Environment Minister Rules Out German Nuclear Extension Beyond this Winter

Extending the lifespan of two German nuclear power plants beyond this winter has been ruled out by German Environment Minister Steffi Lemke.

  • "I rule out extending the running time beyond the coming winter and the necessary purchase of new fuel elements," said Lemke, a member of the Greens party, in a statement on Wednesday.
  • The nuclear power plants in question were set be completely phased out at the end of this year but have been extended because of the European power crisis.
