Equities Roundup: Energy & Chip Stocks Support Rebound

  • Stocks have recovered from early session lows, trading back near the narrow overnight range following mixed earnings announcements. Currently, DJIA is up 70.27 points (0.18%) at 38953.75, S&P E-Minis up 0.5 points (0.01%) at 5214.25, Nasdaq down 3.6 points (0%) at 16328.63.
  • Leading Gainers: Utilities and Information Technology sectors outperformed in early trade, independent power providers supported the former: Vistra +9.25% after beating earnings yesterday (not to mention expected to replace Pioneer Natural Resources place in the S&P 500), while NRG Energy gained 4.69%. Chip stocks buoyed IT as they recovered from better selling on Tuesday: Broadcom +2.24%, Micron +0.66%, Nvidia +0.44%.
  • Laggers: Real Estate and Consumer Discretionary sectors underperformed in the first half, estate management shares reversed prior session gains: CoStar Group -1.88%, CBRE Group -0.62%. Meanwhile, automakers continued to weigh on the former: Tesla -2.07%, Ford -0.25% while parts maker Aptiv lost 0.33%.
  • Wednesday earnings: Sunoco, Emerson Electric, Uber, Vertex, Liberty Media, HubSpot Inc, Airbnb, AppLovin, Duolingo, AMC Entertainment.
