Equities Roundup: Semiconductor Stocks Underperforming; Dow Strong

  • Stocks are mixed ahead midday, the Dow still extending new highs (41,119.87) while S&P Eminis and Nasdaq indexes trade weaker with semiconductor stocks underperforming. Currently, the DJIA is up 105.08 points (0.26%) at 41059.67, S&P E-Minis down 69.25 points (-1.21%) at 5647, Nasdaq down 439.2 points (-2.4%) at 18066.32.
  • Information Technology and Communication Services sectors underperformed, for the second consecutive session, semiconductor stocks weighing on the former: Advanced Micro Devices -8.13%, Broadcom and Applied Materials both -7.18%, Qualcomm -6.50%. Interactive media and entertainment weighed on the Communication Services sector: Meta -4.50%, Omnicom Group -3.51%, Netflix -2.25%.
  • Real Estate and Consumer Staples led gainers in the first half, investment trusts buoyed the former, particularly industrial and retail REITs: Prologis +6.02%, Regency Centers +1.69, VICI Properties +1.65%. Food makers supported the Staples sector: General Mills +3.47%, Conagra +3.28%, Kellanova +2.86%.
  • Note, after reporting earnings this morning, Citizens Financial trades +3.89%, US Bancorp +4.53%, Ally Financial -3.46%. After the close, Discover Financial Services, Equifax, Steel dynamics , Alcoa Corp and United Airlines.
  • Upcoming bank earnings: M&T Bank and Blackstone on Thursday; Fifth Third, Regions Financial, Comerica, American Express and Huntington next Friday.
