Erdogan to Formally Call For May 14 Election Date in March

  • Turkey’s Erdogan has announced that he will make a formal call for elections on March 10 and again underlined May 14 as the date for the country's next parliamentary and presidential elections, Hurriyet report. “I thank God that we are destined to share our path with you, our valued youth, who will vote for the first time in the elections that will be held on May 14,” Erdogan said during a youth conference on Saturday.
  • Turkey Finance Minister Nebati will visit Brussels Jan 25-26 to give a speech on Turkey’s new economy model at the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, according to a ministry statement.
  • Data-wise, Turkish consumer confidence improved by +4.6% m/m in January to 79.1- the highest level since September '21. Solid improvements across current and expected household financial situations and the general economic situation boosted the index. President Erdogan will chair a cabinet meeting in Ankara at 1200 GMT/1500 local time.
