Eskom Initial Offer Includes a 3.75% Pay Increase In Wage Talks

  • South Africa’s state-owned power producer, Eskom, offered workers a pay increase of 3.75% and a one year agreement on the first day of talks, National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa said in an emailed statement on Wednesday. (Bloomberg)
  • For reference, the aforementioned core demands of the labour group include:
    • 15% wage increase
    • two-year agreement
    • housing allowance increase of 1,175 rand ($65)
    • No closing of coal power stations
