Eskom Says Utility is Unsustainable Without Striking Workers

SOUTH AFRICA
Eskom Q&A continues: What is Eskom's plan B if striking workers do not return? And did you meet with Ramaphosa to discuss the current strikes?
  • Eskom currently is not sustainable at current staffing levels due to specialist skills, need to rotate workers - cannot be replaced on a short-term basis. As such, we cannot replace striking workers on a short-term basis.
  • CEO was involved in two meetings with Ramaphosa and Gordhan to brief the government on the situation. Discussed options, but not at liberty to release the details (recall Fin24 reported late yesterday that Gordhan and the President were exploring emergency measures for Eskom)
