RENEWABLES: Estonia Opens Bidding for 552MW Offshore Wind Farm

 The Estonian Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority (CPTRA) has opened the application process for a superficies licence to establish a 552MW offshore wind farm in the Saare 7 area, 11 km west of Saaremaa, with submissions open until 18 March 2025, it said.

  • The winner's application will initiate the superficies licence procedure, which is needed for construction.
  • The proposed project by Sunly Wind includes 46 turbines and is pending environmental and regulatory approval.
  • Before construction, an EIA must be conducted to finalise turbine count, parameters, and total capacity.
  • The CPTRA ensures compliance with environmental and construction regulations.
  • The CPTRA has completed four sea area auction processes and initiated superficies licence proceedings for offshore wind farms 11 times.
  • One environmental impact assessment report has been approved to date.
