EU-bonds will not be included in MSCI index for at least another year

  • Following up on the story that EU-bonds won't be included in the MSCI index, we think this decision could have gone either way, but think that in the future the EU-bonds probably will be included (possibly as soon as next year).
  • Issuance plans will see E150bln sold each year over the next few years so the size of the market is continuing to expand, but at present the total EU-bonds in issue are less than E500bln.
  • This puts the size of the EU-bond market larger than the Dutch market (but still only around a fifth of the size of the French market).
  • There has been little market reaction to the announcement.
