EU Commissioner Says Substantial Progress on Rule of Law Concerns Not Yet Made

HUNGARY

In a meeting yesterday with European Parliament committees, Commissioner for Budget and Administration Johannes Hahn and Nicolas Schmit, commissioner for jobs and social rights, denied press reports that an agreement is in the pipeline to unblock €13bn in funding to Hungary.

  • "Constructive work is ongoing with Budapest, however, funds will remain frozen until substantial solutions to the rule of law issues are in place, which is not the case yet." Johannes Hahn said on X yesterday evening.
