EU Eyes To Extend Voluntary Target To Cut Gas Demand By 15%: Kadri Simson

The European Energy Commissioner is planning to extend the voluntary target to cut gas demand by 15% which is set to expire by end-March, Kadri Simson said.

  • The Commissioner also announced Ukraine will take part in the EU countries’ joint gas buying, seeking to secure 2bcm of extra gas. The first gas buying tender will be launched in April.
  • EU companies also should not sign new Russian LNG contracts when existing contracts expire, Simson said.
  • The current EU gas price cap will be proposed to other gas hubs, she added.
