EU Gas Demand Fell 20.1% Aug-Nov Compared With 5-Year Average

EU consumption of natural gas has dropped by 20.1% in the period August-November 2022, compared with the average gas consumption for the same months between 2017 and 2021, according to Eurostat figures.

  • The European Union has introduced a gas demand reduction plan earlier this year helping member states to reduce demand by 15% between 1 Aug 2022 and 31 Mar 2023 to avoid gas shortages during the winter months.
  • During the period, consumption fell the most in Finland by 52.7%, followed by Latvia by 43.2% and Lithuania by 41.6%
  • Natural gas demand increased in Malta by 7.1% and Slovakia by 2.6%.
