NATURAL GAS

European natural gas demand in September was almost 11% lower than the five-year average according to ICIS figures.

  • The EU has called upon member states to reduce consumption by 15% compared to 2016-2021 levels between August 2022 and March 2023.
  • During August demand in Europe dropped 10%, while discounting Britain the reduction was 11%.
  • Gas consumption savings have materialised in the industrial sector but gas-to-power demand remains high to compensate for the poor performance of nuclear generation and low hydro levels across Europe.
