EU Gas Pipeline Supplies Edged Higher in Week 48

Total natural gas import supplies to Europe increased again in week 48 according to Bruegel data but at a slower seasonal rate to seen in previous years.

  • Total imports in week 48 (Nov 27 – Dec 3) edged up to 6,542mcm compared to 6,449mcm the previous week, driven by an increase in supplies from Russia, Algeria and UK.
  • LNG imports remained relatively unchanged at 2,770mcm while supply from Norway dipped from the high last week back to 1,802mcm and Azerbaijan flows also edged lower.
  • LNG utilisation in the week was above the 2019-2021 average in most countries except for Greece, Croatia and Portugal. Utilisation was 35% in Spain, 59% for Germany, 73% in Belgium, 83% in France, and 90% in the Netherlands.
