EU Looks to Increase Mozambique's Gas Security

The EU is set to increase financial support to Mozambique five-fold to help support gas projects eyed by Europe as an alternative to Russian flows if plans are approved.

  • Small scale attacks in Mozambique threaten the viability for the country to be a reliable gas exporter for Europe.
  • Total still plans to begin production in Mozambique in 2024 from gas reserves estimated in trillions of cubic feet while ENI expects to ship LNG from a nearby offshore gas field this year.
