EU Officials Say Hungary Still Has Work to Do to Unlock Funds

  • EU officials told Hungary’s government to do more to address rule of law concerns that led to the suspension of the bloc’s funding for the country. The EU Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders said on X, “As long as these clearly identified problems are not addressed, the related EU funds remain blocked.”
  • Hungarian minister Navracsics was optimistic following the discussions yesterday. According to local news site Vilaggazdasag, he evaluated his experience during the negotiations in such a way that, in his opinion, the European Commission's approach has changed beneficially and now shows a greater degree of commitment towards a solution. In addition, he said the end of November was a self-imposed deadline for a deal with the EU.
