POWER

Power demand in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Belgium is expected to recover slightly by 1% in 2025 to reach 1,731TWh according to BNEF.

  • If this materialises, demand would still be 1% below the five-year average.

  • On the supply side, solar and wind generation in the six markets is forecast to increase by 17% on the year in 2025 566TWh.
  • Hydropower output is expected to decline by 10%, or 19TWh, this year with the return to normal conditions.
  • In turn, gas-and coal-fired power generation is forecast to decline by 4%, or 28TWh, year on year in 2025.
  • Nuclear generation is forecast to decline by 2% on the year in 2025 with the closure of Belgium’s Doel 1, 2 and Tihange 3 reactors, offsetting higher capacity from Flamanville 3 in France.
