EU Remains Divided On Gas Price Cap

NATURAL GAS

EU energy ministers remain divided on the proposed EU gas price cap of €275/MWh ahead of the meeting on 13 Dec.

  • Czech Industry Minister Jozef Sikela criticized Germany for contributing to the EU’s deadlock over a proposed price cap.
  • Most of the countries are in favour but Germany, the Netherlands and some others oppose it, saying it’s a threat to supply security and the EU must remain price competitive.
  • The Czech Republic proposed a second price cap at €220/MWh for more TTF gas contracts, while the Netherlands suggested a separate idea to put a cap for gas used for mandatory storage injections.
  • All proposals will be presented during Tuesday’s meeting, according to Bloomberg.
