EU Storage Withdrawals 36% Above Normal in Last Week

Withdrawals rates have been holding above normal since Nov 26 to bring total European storage back down within the previous five year range.

  • Net withdrawals in the week to Dec 6 were 36% above normal with an average draw of 6,168GWh/d compared to the 2018-2022 average for the period of 4,647GWh/d.
  • The return of a short period of above normal temperatures over this coming weekend may however help to ease demand and the rate of withdrawals.
  • European natural gas storage is back within the previous five year range at 92.15% full on Dec 6 according to GIE compared to the seasonal five year average of 82.25%.
  • Storage in Germany is at 236.2TWh (92.7% full), Italy is at 179.8TWh (91.3%), Netherlands at 128.6TWh (90.25%), France at 123.4Wh (91.85%) and Austria at 92.1Wh (94.3%).
