EU to Probe Russia's Role in Ryanair Incident, Threatens Sanctions

  • European Parliament may push to study Russia's participation in the Ryanair incident in Minsk. The proposal is contained in the draft resolution with parliament threatening to impose sanctions against Russians if its role is confirmed.
  • Any Russians directly or indirectly involved should be sanctioned for violating human rights. also proposes to limit the access of Belarusian diplomats to the building of the European Parliament.
  • Expanded sanctions against Minsk, may also include disconnection from the SWIFT system, restrictions against state and private companies controlled by the "Belarusian regime", sectoral sanctions against the oil, oil refining, potash, steel and timber industries.
  • The European Parliament can also call on companies registered in the EU, for example Siemens AG, to end cooperation with Belarus - Kommersant
