EU Unblocks EUR2bln From Suspended Funding for Hungary

Hungary managed to unblock about EUR 2bln in EU funds as Prime Minister Orban’s government made further progress in the recovery of crucial financing, Bloomberg report.

  • "The European Commission unlocked the latest tranche after Hungary met so-called thematic conditions relating to educational training and gender equality."
  • "While the funds are part of the more than €30 billion the EU decided to withhold from Hungary more than a year ago, the conditions Budapest met were unrelated to concerns about the rule of law or corruption, which had been the main drivers behind the financing freeze."
