EUA Funds Positioning Continues Bearish Trend

Investment funds positioning in EU ETS futures on the ICE Exchange has turned more bearish for the fifth consecutive week with net short positioning increasing to the highest since mid-April with the latest Commitment of Traders data as of 28 June.

  • Investment Funds net short positionings increased by 3,017 to -21,215 – the most bearish since mid April.
  • Investment Firm net short positionings rose by 59,632 to -330,064 – the most bearish since late March 2023.
  • Commercial Undertaking net long positionings increased sharply by 70,292 to 282,234, the highest since late March 2023
  • EU ETS Dec 24 has been rising this week as Europe’s energy and equity markets rallied in relief as the French election outcome came in as expected. EU carbon prices are still down from levels in May and early June.
