EUA Funds Positioning Turns More Bearish

Investment funds positioning in EU ETS futures on the ICE exchange turned more bearish last week with net short positioning rising to the highest since the week ending 12 April, latest COT data as of 19 July showed.

  • Investment Funds net short positionings increased by 5,262 to -23,379.
  • Investment Firm net short positionings were broadly stable on the week at -299,573, from -300,182 the week before.
  • Commercial Undertaking net long positionings edged up by 3,570 to 250,033.
  • EUA Dec24 recorded a second weekly decline last week with pricing falling to the lowest since end-April at the end of the week as the summer holiday season is nearing its peak. Prices further fell to the lowest since mid-April at the start of this week but have since then slightly rebounded as EUA futures seemed to have bottomed out.
