EMISSIONS: EUA Speculator Positioning Most Bullish Since Aug 2022

Speculator positioning in EU ETS futures on the ICE exchange turned again more bullish on the week with net long positionings at the highest since the week of 19 August 2022, the latest COT data as of 10 January showed.

  • Investment Funds net long positionings increased 9,416 to +29,045.
  • Investment Firm net short positionings were broadly stable for another week at -276,654
  • Commercial Undertaking net long positionings decreased by 7,930 to +184,185.
  • EU ETS Dec25 allowances saw a weekly net decline of around 1.8% last week, after a rally late on Friday caused by a rebound in EU gas prices amid announced US sanctions on Russian LNG terminals that removed most of last week’s losses in EUAs.
