Eurasia Group Says President’s Electoral Reform Unlikely To Be Approved

AMLO’s planned bill to choose electoral officials via popular vote, reduce the size of congress, and decrease funding for political parties isn’t likely to be approved, according to a statement from the Eurasia Group.

  • “The opposition and even allies of the ruling coalition will reject the bill, as it would hurt their political influence and future competitiveness”.
  • “The fact that Lopez Obrador is proposing a reform that has such a steep road ahead is one more indication that the president will remain focused on his main objectives and push them even if he lacks support”.
