Europe Min. Roth: 'UK Needs To Be More Realistic, Pragmatic'

Germany's Europe Minister Michael Roth speaking on the EU's FTA negotiations with the UK has said that the UK needs to be more 'realistic and pragmatic' when it comes to the talks in an interview this morning with AFP.

  • Roth also voiced disquiet at the UK for apparently moving away from the goal of cooperation on defence and security, stating that is was "astonishing that the government in London apparently no longer has an increased interest in talking to the EU on the subject of foreign and security policy".
  • He stated that the EU and UK need to work together closely in the future as international relations around the world have deteriorated in recent years, saying "In the geopolitically uncomfortable post- corona world, good and trustworthy partners are all the more important,"
