Europe Needs More LNG To East Tight Market: Uniper

Europe needs additional LNG to ease the gas market as the continent moves on from the 2022 gas crisis, its CEO Michael Lewis told Bloomberg.

  • “Until significantly more LNG volumes come onto the market, there is going to be a tight situation,” Lewis said.
  • The EU Commission said Nov. 30 that sizeable amounts of LNG will continue to be within Europe’s energy mix until 2050, with further US LNG supplies expected to be exported to the continent from 2026.
  • Regarding the signing of long-term LNG supply contracts with states like Qatar, “We have to make judgments on what the right contracts should be, but we are constantly assessing supply and demand balance,” Lewis said.
