EU: European Commission's Chief Negotiator with the UK Michel Barnier speaking

on the trade talks between the two sides at the plenary session of the European

Economic and Social Committee.

- Has said the COVID-19 pandemic makes a Brexit deal all the more important.

- Argues that the EU welcomes competition with the UK outside the EU, but that

the competition must be balanced and fair.

- Says that the UK cannot have the same relationship with the EU as Japan or

without a deal on fisheries and the level playing field.
