European Parliament Scheduled to Vote on Resolution Related to EU Funds

HUNGARY
  • The European Parliament is scheduled to vote on a resolution related to Hungary’s EU funds at 11:00GMT/12:00CET, according to the Parliament's agenda. Yesterday, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen defended a decision to unlock around EUR 10bln of Hungary's EU funding after the country adopted judicial reforms but said the remaining EUR 20bln would remain frozen until all necessary conditions were fulfilled.
  • Hungary must receive "every euro cent" it is entitled to "without further delay", ruling Fidesz MEP Balazs Hidveghi told the EP debate, adding that "ideological blackmail" was unacceptable. He said the EP wanted to suspend the country's voting rights because they didn't agree on important political matters.
  • Cabinet Minister Gulyas will hold a regularly scheduled press briefing at 09:00GMT/10:00CET following a government meeting earlier in the week. There are no local economic releases on the docket today or tomorrow.
