Eurozone Trade Deficit Widens In Dec

  • The Eurozone flash reading saw the trade deficit standing at E4.6bln in December, modestly beating the forecast of a E4.7bln deficit.
  • This is substantially below the December 2020 trade balance of E28.3bln surplus.
  • The last six months has seen growing convergence between imports and exports for the region, with the December print registering a +14.1% y/y increase in goods exports. Imports jumped +36.7% y/y, with energy imports constituting the bulk of the increase.
  • Intra-euro area trade increased by +27.8% y/y in December.
