Ex-St. Louis Fed President Jim Bullard Joins MNI

MNI (London)

MNI Market News (“MNI”) is delighted to announce that James (‘Jim’) Bullard, prominent Fed policymaker over the past decade, has become the newest member of the MNI Connect Advisory Board.

Jim Bullard, President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis from 2008 to 2023, joins MNI to help develop the Connect global events programme, a forum where financial market participants are brought together with policymakers and opinion formers from central banks and elsewhere to engage in the critical macroeconomic policy debates of our times. Jim announced his departure from the St. Louis Fed last July to become the inaugural dean of the Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr. School of Business at Purdue University, a position he took up in August.

A noted economist and scholar, he was an early voice behind important FOMC developments in his 15 years on the Committee that were bookended by the financial crisis and the Covid pandemic, both marked by the Fed’s QE policy responses. These included a data-dependent approach to the timing of monetary policy decisions and the adoption of an explicit inflation target which the FOMC should defend when inflation falls below as well as above it.

After receiving his doctorate in economics at Indiana University, Jim joined the St. Louis Fed as an economist in 1990 rising through its research division and publishing widely in the field of monetary policy analysis. Prior to joining Purdue, he served for many years as honorary professor of economics at Washington University in St. Louis.

Dennis Lockhart, Atlanta Fed President from 2007 to 2017 who has sat on the MNI Connect Advisory Board since 2018, said: “Jim Bullard is a highly accomplished central banker with many years of service to the Federal Reserve as both senior economist in St. Louis and president. He will contribute greatly to MNI's engagement of current and past policy makers."

”It is an absolute pleasure and honour to welcome Jim to our Connect advisory team. To have a central banker of Jim's stature helping shape our events coverage of not just US but global monetary policy is incredibly exciting for MNI, as we continually strive to improve our insight and analysis of financial markets around the world,” said Terry Alexander, CEO of MNI.

Kevin Woodfield, Global Head of Policy / Connect at MNI, added: “I can think of no more forthright and innovative Fed policymaker across these years of major macroeconomic challenges, and we at MNI are honoured indeed to number Jim on our Advisory Board to help us build our MNI Connect events.”

Jim follows in the footsteps of William Poole, his predecessor as St. Louis Fed president and a member of the MNI Connect Advisory Board from 2010 to 2017. He joins a number of distinguished former central bank and other policy makers who sit on the MNI Connect Advisory Board – see membership list below.
