Expanding China Ties

  • China’s imports from Russia increased by 49.3% YoY in July, according to data from the Customs General Administration in Beijing.
  • This comes after tensions between the US and China rose last week after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a visit to Taiwan. Russia condemned the visit, with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov saying Russia is ready to work with China to uphold international law and the purposes and principles of the UN charter.
  • Bloomberg report that orders for Russian natural gas supplies via Ukraine were steady on Monday, according to data published by Ukraine’s grid and that flows via the Nord Stream pipeline are expected to remain near 20% of the link’s capacity.
  • There are no major data releases scheduled today ahead of CPI data releasing mid-week.
