LNG

Global LNG imports are forecast to drop by 13% month on month in February, due to lower heating demand amid milder weather and lower industrial activity in China due to the Lunar New Year Holiday according to BNEF.

  • Chinese natural gas consumption is forecast to reach 33.1bcm this month, up by 5% on the year but down by 12% from January estimates as the Lunar New Year Holiday will slow factory activity.

  • European gas inventories are forecast to end the heating season at 51% of capacity.

  • The outage at the Freeport liquefaction Train 3 is expected to weigh on US LNG supply that is forecast to fall 0.9mn tons month on month to 7.5mn tons in February. This is still 0.6mn tons higher on the year.
  • Qatari LNG supply might also be lower in February as its fleet needs to divert via the Cape of Good Hope, which could impact the producer’s loading schedule.
