Federal Judge Blocks Biden LNG Project Pause

A federal judge has blocked Biden’s administration from continuing to pause the approval on applications to export LNG on Monday.

  • U.S. District Judge James Cain in Lake Charles, Louisiana, said the freeze was “completely without reason or logic."
  • Cain said the 16 states opposed to the pause were likely to succeed in showing the pause contravened the Natural Gas Act and was arbitrary, capricious, and unconstitutional.
  • An Energy Department spokesperson said it disagreed with the ruling and is evaluating next steps.
  • The Biden Administration announced the pause in January and said it would allow officials to review the process for analyzing economic and environmental impacts of projects seeking approval to export LNG.
