IRELAND: Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin putting pressure on Fine Gael to come
to the table and begin coalition talks after a month of little progress in
forming a new gov't following Feb 8 election.
- There is increasing concern that a caretaker minority gov't led by outgoing
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar will not be able to offer a strong Irish voice as FTA
talks start between UK and EU, nor act appropriately to contain the COVID-19
outbreak, with 6 cases confirmed so far. 
- Fianna Fail-Fine Gael gov't would require support of 8 additional deputies to
hold a majority in the Dail Eireann.
- Neither party willing to work with left-wing nationalist Sinn Fein, which came
1st in the election, due to its historical IRA links. 
- Sinn Fein have surged in polls since the election, placing greater impetus on
establishment Fianna Fail and Fine Gael to come to an agreement.
