Finance Minister Indicates Economy Stabilisation Nearly Complete

  • Chile’s finance minister, Mario Marcel, said the job of stabilising the nation’s economy following a period of high inflation and overheated growth is nearly complete as most recent data continues to show pressures on inflation are easing.
    • The annual inflation rate is roughly a third of what it was at this point in 2022 and the finance minister continues to see it declining to 4% in December, Mario Marcel said Wednesday in a Bloomberg Television interview from London. The interview took place as he is meeting executives as part of the Chile Day investors event.
    • “We started combining fiscal policy with monetary policy to stabilize the economy and that job is almost complete,” the former Chilean central bank governor noted. “The adjustment has reflected mostly in stabilizing the level of GDP.”
