Finance Ministry Approve CAF Loan, Fujimori To Be Released

  • Peru’s Finance Ministry approved a $51.5 million Andean Development Corporation (CAF) loan and about $202 million of local debt placements, according to a statement sent via text message.
  • The payment of the foreign debt operation with CAF is scheduled over 11 years, which includes a grace period of 4 years and 6 months, the Ministry said.
    • Bond issuances to take place on several dates during project’s execution.
  • Peru President Pedro Castillo’s support of Finance Minister, Oscar Graham, is not explicit, thus there is no coherence between the cabinet policies and the economic policy, said former Production Minister and former central bank board member Kurt Burneo in a phone interview.
  • In separate news, former President Alberto Fujimori could be freed from prison Wednesday, his lawyer Elio Riera said in an interview on Canal N.
    • Delay in Fujimori’s release is due to administrative procedures, lawyer said.
