Finland Forecasts 15-26GW of Offshore Wind by 2050

POWER

The Finnish government forecast that in 2050 its domestic offshore wind capacity will reach 15-26GW, according to the government.

  • Capacity by 2035 is expected to be between 5-7GW before climbing between 10-17GW in 2040, according to the government.
  • The government expects 250-450 offshore wind plants to be installed by the middle of the next decade, rising between 500-1150 in 2045 and 750-1750 plants in 2050.
  • This would equate to around 20-110 TWh of power generation over 2035-2050.
  • The large variability between the installed capacity is based on the government's two scenarios.
