First Cabinet Change For Boric Administration, Copper Boosts CLP

  • President Gabriel Boric announced his first cabinet change less than six months into his administration after reports that one of his ministers tried to contact a radical indigenous activist.
    • Boric said he accepted the resignation of Social Development Minister Jeanette Vega after local news service Ex Ante reported Thursday that one of her advisers had spoken with Hector Llaitul, leader of the CAM indigenous organization.
  • Volatility for the Chilean Peso continued on Thursday, with USDCLP dropping an impressive 2.2% and back below 900. Copper rising to a near two-month high underpinned the firm price action for the Peso, further bolstered by the ongoing FX intervention program potentially exacerbating the price action as markets remained subdued ahead of Fed’s Powell.
