First Effort To Refloat Stranded Ship In Suez Fails: AFP

INTERNATIONAL TRADE

AFP reporting that the technical manager of the firm trying to shift the Ever Given, the ship currently blocking the Suez Canal, has said that the first effort to refloat the ship has failed.

  • Braemar ACM Shipbroking has the following comments on the incident:
    • "In our view, the worst-case scenario – where the ship remains stuck for another 20 to 25 days – has become very much more likely.
    • "This contrasts with our view of yesterday when we viewed the delay to be several days long. Like in most salvage operations, the first 4 to 5 days is likely to be assessing the situation, followed by another week or so of planning and another week or so for executing the plan and dealing with unknown situations."
    • "The best time to attempt a refloat may not be till Sunday and Monday, when the spring tide is at a peak. If that fails, the next opportunity is another 12-14 days away."
