First Large-Scale LNG Tanker Moored at New Skikda Jetty: Platts

LNG

A large-scale tanker has moored at the new jetty at Algeria’s Skikda port for the first time, according to Platts.

  • "This achievement reflects Sonatrach's keenness to increase the loading capabilities at the port of Skikda," a statement from Sonatrach said.
  • The jetty will be able to allow carriers of up to 220 mcm to load cargoes, compared to just 70 mcm previously.
  • This expansion may open regular Skikda cargoes to the Asian market. They are currently limited to outlets in close proximity such as southern Europe.
  • Skikda supplied 27 cargoes in 2023, totalling around 4m mt. Cargoes went to France, Italy, Spain, Greece, and the UK.
  • Sonatrach operated four LNG facilities, totalling 25m mtpa. However, most are working below capacity.
