First LNG Ship-to Ship Transfers in Nine Months

LNG ship-to-ship transfers have taken place in the waters off Malaysia in July, the first in nine months according to Vortexa. With European demand for LNG so high they expect ship-to-ship transfers to remain active.

  • An LNG cargo arrived in Europe last week carrying a mixture of Australian and Qatari gas.
  • Mixing LNG into a full shipment is risky and would usually be a waste of time and money, so this illustrates the extent of the energy crunch.
  • The practice is rarely carried out in the LNG market, unlike in the oil sector where blending of crude is fairly commonplace.
