First Loading at Egypt's Damietta LNG Since July 2023

Egypt's Damietta LNG plant has resumed loadings for the first time since July 2023, according to ICIS LNG Edge.

  • The Seapeak Catalunya loaded its cargo on 6 January and indicating arrival at Piombino in Italy on Jan 21 although should arrive nearby in a couple of days.
  • Both LNG plants in Egypt, at Idku and Damietta, halted loading cargoes in July 2023 due to rising domestic energy demand.
  • Idku saw a slow restart in October 2023 due to a cut in Israel pipeline gas exports to Egypt at the start of the conflict in Gaza but LNG exports from the terminal increased towards the end of last year.
